Challenge

Mayor of London Boris Johnson pledged to make London’s Olympic and Paralympic Games the most accessible ever. Following the Games, the Greater London Authority (GLA) commissioned LiveTourism working with Arkenford Leisure to evaluate the impact of the work done to improve accessibility for London’s visitors and made recommendations for future developments.

Solution

This huge piece of work included primary visitor research, in-depth stakeholder interviews and practical case studies. The evaluation report – Games Changer: An evaluation of London as an accessible visitor destination – identified improvements across the accessible visitor journey. However, while there had been a huge range of initiatives and progress since 2009, there was low awareness of projects and a lack of connection between the many ‘islands of good practice’. We recommended a more coordinated approach to improving London’s accessibility and more active promotion of London as an accessible visitor destination.
